All roles for Arsenic and Old Lace are open. Auditions will be held at Green Room Music Studios in Newhall. Please be prepared for a cold read. Walk-ins are welcome, but are not guaranteed an audition slot. Callbacks: will be held on Tuesday, August 18th from 7:00pm-10:00pm at Green Room Music Studios.

Show Description:

This hilarious dark comedy follows Mortimer Brewster- a dramatic critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and the local police in Brooklyn as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves. His family includes two spinster aunts who have taken to poisoning their "guests", a cousin who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt, and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery performed by an accomplice, Dr. Einstein to conceal his identity. This halloweentime comedy is a fast-paced non-stop thrill from beginning to end that you won't want to miss!

Available Roles

  • Abby Brewster: A darling lady in her sixties who poisons elderly men. Abby is the sister of Martha and an aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.

  • The Rev. Dr. Harper: Minister and father of Elaine

  • Teddy Brewster: Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Teddy is a man in his forties who thinks that he is Theodore Roosevelt.

  • Officer Brophy: A police officer

  • Officer Klein: A police officer

  • Martha Brewster: A sweet elderly woman with Victorian charm who poisons elderly men, Martha is the sister of Abby and an aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.

  • Elaine Harper: A girl in her twenties and Mortimer’s fiancee, Elaine is the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Harper. She is surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for a minister's daughter.

  • Mortimer Brewster: Nephew of Abby and Martha, Mortimer is a drama critic who is engaged to Elaine. He is a nice man who cares for his aunts.

  • Mr. Gibbs: A man who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters

  • Jonathan Brewster: Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Jonathan is a psychopath who has had plastic surgery and now looks like Boris Karloff.

  • Dr. Einstein: A plastic surgeon and an alcoholic who is in his fifties, Dr. Einstein has changed Jonathan's face three times.

  • Officer O'Hara: A police officer, O’Hara is a would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play.

  • Lieutenant Roony: A tough and dominating police officer

  • Mr. Witherspoon: The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium

How to Schedule an Audition:

  • Send an email to olivebranchtheatricals@gmail.com and the Audition Monitor will give you time options to choose from.

  • Walk-ins are welcome, but you are not guaranteed a slot.

What to Bring to Your Audition:

  • Bring your Photo ID (mandatory if over 18). You will not be allowed to audition until we check your ID.

  • If you're a minor, we will need to see your parent or guardian's ID in order to audition.

  • Headshot and Resume.

What to Expect at Your Audition:

  • Arrive 10 minutes early to your audition time to complete your Audition Application form.

  • You will be greeted by the Audition Monitor who will walk you through the audition process.

  • The Audition Monitor will be checking your photo ID before your audition.

  • Once your paperwork is filled out turn your Audition Application over to the Audition Monitor along with your headshot and resume.

  • The Audition Monitor will walk you into the audition space and introduce you to the production team.

  • The Production Team will be providing a selection for you to do a cold read.

Auditioning if You’re a Minor:

Your parent or guardian must be on site for the duration of your audition and will be expected to sign your application for you.

Rehearsal & Show Schedule

Rehearsals will be held in the evenings at Green Room Music Studios in Newhall, CA and will begin August 20th and will run through opening night. Opening night is Friday, October 9th, 2020, Closing Sunday, October 25th, 2020. All Performances will be in Newhall, CA.

  • Sunday, October, 4th load in 15 - 7:00-7:00 build, rehearsal 7:00-10:00

  • Monday, October, 5th Tech Week 4 and a half hours 6:30-11:00

  • Tuesday, October, 6th Tech Week 4 and a half hours 6:30-11:00

  • Wednesday, October, 7th Tech Week 4 and a half hours 6:30-11:00

  • Thursday, October, 8th Tech Week 4 and a half hours 6:30-11:00

  • Friday, October, 9th Opening 7:30

  • Saturday, October, 10th 2:00 and 7:30

  • Sunday, October, 11th 2:00

  • Friday, October, 16th 7:30

  • Saturday, October, 17th 7:30

  • Sunday, October, 18th 2:00

  • Saturday, October, 24th 2:00

  • Sunday, October, 25th 2:00 (sensory inclusive) and 7:30 performance followed by partial strike
